Each of you is ushered into a conference room within the FBI New York Field Office.
The floor is carpeted in a cheap, steel-grey nylon, and the walls are whitewashed. The furniture is clean, if cheap, faux-pine, and a large wooden conference table dominates the room. A whiteboard hangs on the wall at the far end of the room, with a pull down projector screen above, and an overhead projector opposite. Sunlight streams into the room through the large windows along one wall.
The supervisor, a middle aged black gentleman, with black hair which is beginning to grey at the temples ushers you in, and sits each of you down around the conference table, before shutting the thick fire door to the conference room, shutting out the noise from the bustling office outside.
The man begins to address you: "Gentlemen, I am your contact from Delta Green on this assignment. You can call me Bill...which is obviously not my real name, but will suffice for now. At around 2:30pm last night Michael Wei, a graduate student in Mathematics, at the University of Columbia, entered the home of the Ridgeway family in Alliance, New Jersey, and murdered all six inhabitants, before shooting himself. So far, so normal mass murder. What troubles A-Cell though is that a sequence of numbers believed to have dangerous and paranormal properties was found inscribed at the scene.
We need you to determine if that sequence was distributed to anyone else by Mr Wei, to locate and destroy Mr Wei's notes on the sequence, all evidence of the sequence at the crime scene, find and report anyone exposed to the sequence back to me, and set up the crime as a crime of passion by Mr Wei. Nothing to do with the sequences. Got that?
Obviously, you'll need access to the crime scene, and by pulling some strings, each of you have been granted the appropriate documents: to all intents and purposes, and if anyone asks, you are members of the New York Field Office of the FBI. Bear in mind, these won't stand up to too much scrutiny though, so try to keep a low profile. A written briefing has been prepared, read it and destroy it.
Any questions?"
[see handout thread for the written briefing, I have assumed for the purposes of simplicity you are all already delta green agents]
