OK, what are the gun laws in this state and does the gun comply to them? Where was it bought and who by (if not the killer)? How soon can we get a match on the bloody hand print, see which of the victims it matches.
also answers to your recommended questions (in the file format, subtly asking if this is the only copy)
(ooc i like this thread based game, works pretty well takes time but you can think a bit more about it, we'll have to wait and see how action plays out. On another note I have got my own "quest" to run after this)

((Ok then, whos body is the bottom left one nearest the cooker?))
'Well the time here matches with the reported time of the shootings, at least that adds up.' I take a look at the layout of the chalk outlines. 'But, I think we're missing something, if one of the family was standing near the cooker when he opened fire, where did he go? Seems unlikely someone would dive into their family like that.'

Will:
- Broadly, you need a licence of some kind for the purchase of a handgun, rifle or shotgun. There are questions, references, and background checks. The shotgun and ammo are within the scope of the law, so long as the purchaser has the appropriate licence.
- I'm not giving you an instant answer re: the gun and its source, that's going to require more legwork. You'll have to tell me what you want to know and how you're going to find it out. As outlined earlier the gun is back in the evidence locker.
- Bloody hand print you can know by tomorrow.
- A handout covering the information contained within the case file will be put into the handouts folder. It's a standard law enforcement document so of course there are copies.

Blanet:
"Before the bodies were moved, the body nearest the stove was Malcolm's. I guess that's pretty odd, at that angle to the rest of the victims, and where everybody died. As you say, you wouldn't think the guy would dive into his family like that. I mean, you ask me, that theory doesn't fit."

'Malcolm, that was the father right? If anything we'd see his body closer towards the door and more signs of a struggle if our guy missed. Are all family members or possible guests accounted for? Something doesn't add up at all here.'

"Yup, that was Daddy...dead daddy now. All the family members are accounted for, five down here and one kid upstairs. None of the neighbours saw any guests... other than the unwelcome shotgun wielding one"

'Well this is interesting... I think I've seen enough for the time being.' ((Can I head off to talk to the reporter?))

(Sure, it's about 10 or 11 now, there's an address for a local bar around 20 minutes or so away. If you want to go I'll set it up as a separate scene)

((Let's do this)) 'Right then guys, I'm going to go look around, you know for outside witnesses, people who knew the family.' I hurry out before people can make excuses and phone the reporter telling him to meet me at the bar.

[OOC: I will deal with this Monday, since I'm away over the weekend, and it gives Adam/Bert a chance to catch up posting, and you guys a chance to plan. Also, no police station by this time - will have to be morning. Will I will gladly take you up on running an adventure after this - since normally I DM I rarely get to play: this is not by choice. So yes, feel free to do the next one. ]
A quick sweep with the geiger-counter reveals nothing out of the ordinary.

Adam:
Michael, the 18 year old son, was originally found dead at the top of the stairs. The place where the body was found is marked around with tape (rather than chalk, after all, there is a carpet). There's a lot of blood soaked into the carpet, which was cream but is stained dark red by the blood. There are also blood splatters on the walls moving out from the body. There are two more shell casings nearby, bringing the total found to sixteen.
Bert
You find some oxycotin (powerful prescription painkillers) in bathroom cabinet. They are childlocked and the prescription date is pretty old now. You guess that they are probably from an old injury to one of the adults. There are about 12-14 pills or so left in the bottle.
You also find some Xanax (tranquilizer/anti-depressant) in the bedside cabinet in the parents' room, again, it's pretty heavily out of date and was at the back of the drawer. It seems likely this wasn't being used recently. About 6 pills remain.
Beyond that, you find nothing you wouldn't expect to find in a family home. [OOC I've only addressed what you were specifically looking for, if you want more you'll have to tell me]
